Choosing an ultrasound system in Dubai

A practical guide to applications, probes, configuration and service requirements.

Originally published December 23, 2023. Procurement guidance adapted from the original Adamsmed article. Confirm current product specifications and commercial terms with the supplier.

Define the intended examinations.

Start with the examinations and clinical applications your team needs to support. A system should be evaluated against the intended use, required imaging modes and facility protocols, rather than a generic list of features.

Check probes and system options.

Confirm which probes, software options and accessories are included in the quotation. Ask the clinical team to assess whether the proposed configuration is appropriate for the planned applications.

Consider portability and workflow.

Compare the space available, power requirements, portability, storage and the way images need to move through your facility. Any connectivity or data-handling requirements should be reviewed by the appropriate technical team.

Compare acquisition arrangements.

Review the total configuration and support costs when evaluating a purchase. If another acquisition arrangement is proposed, confirm its availability and terms directly rather than assuming that leasing is offered.

Confirm training and after-sales support.

Ask about installation, user training, warranty, maintenance and probe support. Cleaning and disinfection must follow the manufacturer’s instructions and your facility’s approved infection-control procedures.

Prepare your equipment shortlist

  • Required applications and manufacturer or model preferences.
  • Quantities, accessories and documentation requirements.
  • Facility location, delivery expectations and site considerations.
  • Training, maintenance and after-sales support needs.
