Choosing a medical equipment supplier means considering more than a product list. These six checks help healthcare buyers compare equipment, documentation and after-sales support before committing to a purchase.
1. Choosing a supplier you can rely on
Look beyond the initial purchase price. Consider the supplier’s reliability, the equipment documentation available and the support you can access after delivery.
2. Research the supplier’s capabilities
Check the product range and areas of specialisation. Ask which equipment the supplier can support directly and where a manufacturer or specialist service provider is involved.
3. Start with your facility’s needs
Prepare a list of the applications, equipment quantities and specifications your facility needs. Include installation requirements, training and ongoing maintenance when comparing quotations.
4. Check product quality and suitability
Review the model specifications and relevant documentation before purchase. Where appropriate, arrange a demonstration or evaluation and confirm what is included in the quotation.
5. Review licensing and product documentation
Ask the supplier for its relevant business and product documentation, and confirm the requirements applicable to the particular device and intended use with the responsible authorities. Do not assume every device follows the same approval pathway.
6. Consider support as your needs change
Discuss future equipment needs, compatible consumables, spare parts and maintenance options. Check how the supplier will handle questions, repairs and changes to your requirements.
